Eastern Connecticut State University
Archives & Special Collections

The primary mission of the University Archives is to appraise, collect, preserve, organize and provide access to records, print material, photographs, memorabilia, and other historically valuable materials relating to the history of Eastern Connecticut State University (ECSU). Archival material supports administration, faculty, student, and public needs for information about ECSU.

Archives & Special Collections

Archives contains the university archives with materials of continuing administrative, legal, or historical importance. Special Collections focus on Washington state and include a collection of folk art and culture focusing on Chicano culture, the archives of the organization dedicated to preserving the last remaining non-industrialized river delta in Washington state, the papers of Congresswoman Jolene Unsoeld, papers from the Washington State Folklife Council, and documents from the Washington Worm Growers. Additionally there is a collection of socialist literature.

Center of Southwest Studies: Archives, Library, & Museum

The Center's Special Collections holdings are strongest in the areas of historically significant materials pertaining to:

Native Americans of the Southwest (especially artifacts, artistic and ethnographic works, and government relations)
Local/regional affairs (including newspapers, community, business and government)
Mining of coal and precious metals in the Four Corners region (including gold, silver, uranium and vanadium)
Water and water rights in the Four Corners region
Electricity generation and transmission
Narrow gauge railroads

Additionally, the Center of Southwest Studies is the hub for effective management of institutional records generated, processed or received by the faculty, staff and students.

Georgia College
Special Collections

Topics, materials, and collections covered include: Administration of the Flannery O'Connor Collection, Paul Coverdell Collection, Carl Vinson materials, Alice Walker materials, local and regional historical collections, Georgia College Archives, Rare Books, the Flannery O'Connor Room, and the Carl Vinson Exhibition. Local and regional historical collections center around antebellum and Civil War history. Central State Hospital features heavily in Milledgeville and state history collections, as it was one of the largest mental institutes in the nation.

University Archives

Collections include the Academic Forum publication, Art Show Postcards, Historical Board of Trustee Papers, Farrar Newberry Collection of historical documents and photographic material from Clark County, Arkansas, the HSU music Programs, and other HSU related collections such as the Historical Catalogs and Bulletin Collection. The HSU Archives Digital Collection provides electronic access to historical papers of the University and other collections.

College Archives & Special Collections

The holdings cover the subjects of college history, New Hampshire history, modern poetry, children and young adult literature, film, social justice, civil rights, women’s history, and the Holocaust. Also included is the Orang Asli Archive, a research collection of materials related to the indigenous peoples of Peninsular Malaysia. KSCommons is the digital repository for the archives and special collections, comprising some 10,000 digital objects.

Digital Archives

Mansfield's collection is primarily university archives. Much of the collection has been digitized and is available from the Internet Archive via the link on the archives website. Links to regional primary sources are also included.

Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts
Special Collections & College Archives

The College Archives contains materials dealing with the college from its start as a normal school to the present. Materials can be divided into two categories: historical and organizational. Historical items include photographs, yearbooks, school newspapers, scrapbooks, catalogs, ephemera and blueprints. Organizational materials, both past and present, include records of various academic and non-academic departments, organizations and groups associated with the college, as well as correspondence, faculty publications, course schedules and descriptions, policies, event programs and catalogs. The Hoosac Valley Collection for Local History was established 35 years ago at MCLA.

Special Collections & Archives

Collections include the papers of Congressman Graham Purcell, the Nolan A. Moore III Heritage of Print Collection (over 1,100 items chronicling man’s attempt to communicate through print), and the Monahan Map Collection, which includes approximately 1,500 railroad maps and documents related to railroads in North Texas and surrounding areas. Also included are the MWSU university archives.

Digital Collections & Archives Collections

The New College of Florida Archives serves as the repository of the official records of the academic and administrative offices/units of the College and the unofficial historical materials, such as papers of a faculty member or of a student organization. The Archives also includes some large synthetic collections such as the History of New College, the Architecture Collection, and the Special Formats collection, which reflect the contributions and impact of the College's innovative and unique educational programs.

College Archives & Special Collections

The Archives’ primary purpose is to document the history of the College. The Archives space also houses Special Collections. These include faculty publications, faculty research material, and items related to subjects studied or presented at the College, especially those associated with Northern New Jersey.

St. Mary's College of Maryland
Archives

The Archive provides for the acquisition, organization, description, preservation, and access to unique materials which preserve and document the history of St. Mary’s College of Maryland. The collection tracks the school’s journey from a female seminary to a high school, a high school/junior college, a junior college, a four-year baccalaureate institution, and finally Maryland’s public honor’s college. The archive also collects items related to the history of St. Mary’s County. Important manuscript collections include the papers of J. Frank Raley, former Maryland Delegate Paul Bailey, and former St. Mary’s president J. Renwick Jackson, Jr.

Shepherd University
Archives & Special Collections

Shepherd University Archives and Special Collections at Scarborough Library include university archives, the Rare Book collection, the West Virginia collection, and small collections relating to Shepherdstown (the oldest town in the state of West Virginia, chartered in 1762) and Jefferson County, West Virginia history, Shepherdstown organizations and public education, individuals and families of Shepherdstown, and Storer College.

Special Collections

The emphasis of Special Collections in the Sonoma State University Library is on the history, people, and culture of the North Bay region of California, but some collections cover a wide range of subjects. Online digital materials include, historical and contemporary photographs, personal papers, digital maps, student newspapers and other materials from the university archives.

Southern Oregon University
Special Collections & University Archives

Collections include the Bailey Shakespeare Collection which includes Shakespeare’s 2^nd and 4^th folios and 200 volumes published before 1750, the Britt Photograph Collection with over 2,000 prints of life and landscapes of southern Oregon, manuscript collections that document Southern Oregon’s unique geography, environment, culture, and history, and the university archives. Many are available online through the Southern Oregon Digital Archives.

Special Collections & Archives

Materials include books, manuscripts, sound recordings, musical scores, photographs, and artifacts. The collection development policy focuses on acquiring materials specifically relating to Utah history, southern Utah, the life and works of William Shakespeare, and the Native Americans of southern Utah, in particular the Paiute Indian Tribe. Many collections are available through the SUU Digital Archive.

SUNY Geneseo
Special Collections

SUNY Geneseo's collections focus on local history and include the Genesee Valley Historical Collection, the Wadsworth Family Papers, the Carl Schmidt Collection in Historic Architecture, and the College Archives. The geographical scope covers the eight counties surrounding the Genesee River in New York State: Allegany, Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Orleans, Steuben and Wyoming. Some materials are available online through the New York Heritage Digital Collections. Also included are the college archives.

Contains rare books, faculty and alumni publications, and donated collections. The latter include the Violette-McClure Missouriana of books and other materials that were written by a Missourian, are about Missouri, or were published in Missouri; the Brashear-Henderson Mark Twain Collection; library and personal papers of alumnus Glenn Frank; the Schwenge Collection of pamphlets, periodicals, newspaper clippings and ephemera about Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War; the George N. Hartje Collection covering the history of books, libraries, printing, and all aspects of the printed word.

University of Alberta, Augustana Campus
Special Collections & Archives

The University of Alberta, Augustana Campus does not have its own Special Collections or Archives, but the Bruce Peel Special Collections & Archives at the University of Alberta, Edmonton serves as a general repository. The collection has more than 100,000 rare books and a significant collection of archival materials which explore a range of local and international subjects, including Alberta folklore and local history, conservation of the bison, the Miriam Ellis Green archive, and the history and literature of the Prairie Provinces.

Archives, Special Collections, & Illinois Regional Archives Depository

Archives/Special Collections includes the most significant historical records of Sangamon State University (1969-1995) and the University of Illinois at Springfield, as well as regional history records and manuscripts. As a member of the Illinois Regional Archives Depository System (IRAD), administered by the Illinois Secretary of State/Illinois State Archives, UIS Archives/Special Collections serves as one of seven depositories in the state for local government records. Special Collections includes non-circulating library material such as rare, valuable, and fragile books and periodicals.

Mantor Library's mission is to provide instruction and information access to faculty and students, allowing them to meet their scholarly and research goals. The collections in Mantor Library's archives pertain to the history of UMF.

University of Mary Washington
Special Collections & University Archives

Special Collections includes rare books and journals and a large collection of original WWI posters. All items within Special Collections can be found in the Library catalog. Also included are the university archives arranged in divisions or “record groups” that correspond to the administrative, student, faculty, or alumni organization which originally created the materials. The digital collections repository has images related to the history and student life of Mary Washington’s campus.

University of Minnesota, Morris
Archives & Special Collections

The University of Minnesota, Morris Archives serves as the institutional memory of the campus. It includes material from the various administrative arms of the college, records from the various divisions, disciplines, and offices, material provided by student organizations, campus governance, photographs, and the personal papers of administrators, professors, and UMM employees. Though the process of including UMM Archives materials in Pounce is an ongoing one, many of the materials are cataloged and included in the library's online catalog. Some materials are available online through the UMM Digital Collection and the UMM Digital Well.

Archives & Special Collections

Archives center around the history of Montevallo. Special Collections tend to fall into the following categories: books of regional importance such as town/county/area histories, Bibles belonging to local clergy/churches, geological studies, etc.; books, or books containing chapters, authored by faculty members; books important to UM's history such as notable collections or materials purchased as part of the original library collection; and works by scholars/speakers who lectured on campus. Some materials have been digitized.

UNCA’s Special Collections contains manuscripts, oral histories, photographs, books, and other materials that document the history and culture of Asheville and Western North Carolina. University Archives includes historical institutional records, photographs, and publications.

The mission of the university's Archives is to collect, preserve, and provide access to the documentary, photographic, and artifactual history of the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma and its predecessor institutions. USAO has several special collections, also available at the Archives.

University of South Carolina Aiken
Archives

The University of South Carolina Aiken's Gregg-Graniteville Library is home to the Gregg-Graniteville Archives and the USCA University Archives. The Gregg-Graniteville Archives and the Gregg/Swint Memorial Room house the historical collection consisting of documents and memorabilia of the Graniteville Company, a major Southern textile manufacturing firm founded in 1845 by William Gregg. The University of South Carolina Aiken's University Archives holds the permanently valuable non-current records of USCA. Of special interest are the archives holdings of Records of the Aiken County Commission on Higher Education, Records of the Faculty Assembly, and Records of the Chancellors. The Archives holdings document the founding of the institution and its growth from a two-year to a four-year institution. Manuscript and photographic holdings trace the institution's move from Banksia to its current campus on University Way. The Gregg-Graniteville Library's Digital Collection is comprised of selected documents and photographs from both the Gregg-Graniteville Archives and the USCA University Archives.

University of Virginia's College at Wise
Archives & Special Collections

Special Collections include folklore material, historical material on Wise County, local genealogy, papers and accounts books of the Beatty-Flannery Department Store of Wise, the Highland Cavalier, the Melungeon Collection, documents from the Southwest Virginia Folklore Society, and materials from the Coal Operator’s Association and Southwest Virginia mining companies.

The UW-Superior Special Collections & Archives seeks to build a research collection of high quality by identifying, collecting, preserving, and providing access to materials relating to Northwestern Wisconsin as well as the communities surrounding Lake Superior and the upper Great Lakes.
